With less than two weeks until Halloween, there’s no time like the present to start thinking about epic party plans and magical costumes.
Now, if you’re anything like us, you’ve been in the Halloween spirit since September. That doesn’t mean, however, that you can’t still put some epic plans into place for the big night itself.
We’ve been on a bit of a Harry Potter kick lately, and with no better time to invite magic (both light and dark) into our realm, we’ve decided to think Hogwarts for this Halloween.
From party invites to wicked snacks and even drinks fit for wizard royalty, here are 7 ways to throw a Harry Potter themed Halloween party this year.
Face it, we’ve all wanted to receive mail from Hogwarts. Instead of longing for the acceptance letter, put a twist on a party invitation that’s worthy of a Hogwarts stamp of approval.
This video shows how to personalize your own Hogwarts letter. You can adjust it to creating the perfect invite and you’ll be responsible for bringing the magic to your friends and loved ones!
The decor of any party can enhance the setting or totally throw the mood. For a Harry Potter Halloween party, you really can’t go wrong.
Want to have quidditch hoops? Do it! Turn rooms into ‘houses’ with favors in each one? Let the world (or at least, your home) be your oyster! Add some evil with dementors or add the perfect photo booth with ‘missing wizard‘ signs.
Pinterest will be your best friend when it comes to party decor. Just do a quick search and you’ll spend hours getting ideas. Trust us.
This is one of the most exciting aspects of Halloween, becoming something entirely different for a night.
When it comes to Harry Potter, you can channel any energy you want for the night. Do you feel like tasting evil? Harry Potter has some of the best villains in literature and film – you could embrace any aspect. From Bellatrix to Voldemort to the ‘anti-hero’ characters like Snape and Draco – the list goes on and on.
Would you rather be a good Hogwarts student? Become Harry or Ron, Hermione or Ginny, Tonks or Luna. You can go with the classic costumes or mix it up and do something a little less ‘store bought’ and more unique.
No party is complete without snacks! For this one, you could incorporate almost anything. Wands, broomsticks, golden snitches, cauldrons, and even these awesome sorting hat cupcakes we found on Pinterest.
You can search for recipes online and find tons of inspiration, or put your own spin on some classic Halloween treats and surprise your guests.
When it comes to games, the Harry Potter realm has an endless supply of ideas. There are battle games and trivial pursuit that you can purchase or you can go the DIY route and make some of your own.
You could turn a game of beer pong into Quidditch, play pin the lightning bolt on Harry (even funnier after a few drinks), or even a trivia contest for the truest Harry Potter fans.
You can bring fanfiction into the games too. Play J.K Rowling or fanfiction by reading quotes and making your party guests guess their origin!
This is the category we’re most excited about. For any given holiday, we’re big on drink recipes. We make vampire and witch drinks on Halloween anyway – full on with those fake fangs we all loved in elementary school and black ice.
For a Harry Potter party, the possibilities grow even more. You can make a special punch for each house, witches or wizards brew, butterbeer (of course), unicorn blood, and even liquid luck.
Make sure to remember the simple syrup so you can add sugar to the rim of the glasses!
When you go to any store to check out the Halloween section, you’ll find yourself stumbling upon ribbon awards. Now, we used to strive for those on field day in school – we even convinced our parents to get us new shoes so we could run faster. Ribbon awards are still cool as adults!
You can get the ones sold at stores, get creative and make your own. Either way, you’ll feel awesome giving these to your party guests and they’ll feel awesome receiving them.
If you really want to take it up a notch, get one of those alcohol bottles in the shape of a skull for one very special winner of the evening. Those are totally awesome.
Now, most Harry Potter Halloween parties will channel all of the above, but we’ve decided to throw in something special this year.
Want to add an extra (and unique) layer to the party? Include fanfiction! You can turn it into a game, put quotes on invites or decor, or instead of having a seance – have a Harry Potter reading instead.
While fanfiction might not be the go-to topic of conversation between your friends, you’d be surprised at how many people would love the idea, they may even have the same favorite stories as you do.
Let us know if you’ll be throwing a Harry Potter bash this Halloween!
