One of the brilliant things about fanfiction stories is that you can find one to fit every single mood you may be in.
Need a great laugh? There’s a fanfiction for that. Are you in the mood to cry? There’s a fanfiction for that. Are you having the most Monday Monday of your entire life thus far? There’s a fanfiction for that.
There are also fanfiction stories of every length. If you want a story you can finish alongside a bottle of wine after work – you’ll find a number to choose from. If you want to spend your weekend indulging in a lengthy story of love and drama, there are plenty there as well.
If you want something you can read within an hour…well, those exist too.
In fact, we’ve gathered 4 of those for you today, because we could all use a quick break from the mundane.
Sometimes those little breaks, those moments we take to ourselves to explore and find magic, those may only last a moment in time, but their impact can change everything.
So here are 4 of the most intense that you can read pretty quickly.
We’ve recommended this one before, but we have to say that you can’t have a complete list of short Harry Potter fanfics without this story. At least, that’s our opinion.
It’s intense in a way that will leave you feeling truly emotionally charged after reading it.
We’ve all suffered great loss and then felt the great pain of that loss. We’ve experienced that cold feeling you get sometimes upon recalling your time together, that ache in your chest.
We’ve also experienced it in ways where we can’t connect to those emotions so deeply, circumstances that have required us to put on a brave face.
You’ll see both, and you’ll understand.
Now, this one you could definitely finish in under an hour, but we recommend looking it at once again after you read it the first time. You might pick up on something you missed.
The synopsis for this one says it all. “The road to hell is paved with good intentions”, as it always seems to be.
This story will keep you on your toes, in a good way, even as you come across plot points you weren’t expecting.
You’ll see evil within a character you’re not expecting, you’ll feel fear and anger and you’ll want to toss your phone (or laptop or computer or tablet) because it’ll take you back to that toxic high school relationship you spent time sidestepping. We’ve all been there, just without the magic and mind blocks and pure evil looming about.
Thank goodness.
This is another one you can read in well under an hour – and another by Lady Altair – but when we see a good story, we have to share it.
Snape’s character here is captured with the depth truly required to understand who he is. Some stories only touch on one part of his persona which does him a disservice.
It’s right at under 1,000 words so we simply can’t say too much, but he truly does spend his time picking Lilies. In the most heartwrenching way.
There’s a trigger warning here for content; mentions of abuse. The author mentions it straight away, so if you don’t think you’ll be able to handle it, we’d recommend staying away from this one.
If you can read it, there’s a lesson you’ll take away from it. As Dudley sees his family for who they are…for what they are…he realizes that he’s got two choices. He can turn a blind eye or he can walk away a different man.
The characterization here is another strong point in this story. You can truly imagine Dudley as he begins to see what bravery lies beyond standing up for what’s right.
Who doesn’t need to be reminded of that?
When we think of intense fanfiction stories, we think of ones that heighten our emotions. You might not feel afraid reading most of these. In fact, only two may really strike fear within you, but you’ll certainly be overwhelmed (in a good way) at the end of each one.
We’ve said it before, and we’ll continue to do so, there’s magic in the Harry Potter realm and so much of that exists within the fanfiction in the community.
If you need an escape, a place to find yourself, or a little hope – you can find it here.
