When we first discovered the realm of fanfiction, we were completely enamored. There were stories and sagas and tales of characters we’ve known in books, films, and television right in front of us. New avenues to explore with familiar spirits, new adventures to begin and lives to live.
The beautiful and incredible thing about literature is that it allows you to live lives far beyond what you’re used to. This is true in everything from published books on the New York Best Sellers list to the corners of the internet where fanfiction is found.
Sometimes we all really want to read that latest book on the book club list, other times…we just want to dive into a good fanfiction story.
So here are 11 times we absolutely needed more fanfiction.
This should come as a shock to no one, and it’s also a feeling we know you can relate to. The last time we got to the theater to see the Harry Potter films, we cried. The tears weren’t just due to the subject material, it was because we knew this major part of who we’d become was changing.
We really kept dreaming and imagining in the Harry Potter realm with fanfiction. It gave us a new plane to explore, and we’ve never stopped.
Don’t judge us, but we’re the kind of people who can turn on the Twilight saga during one of those weekends we feel like staying in and end up lost in it.
It’s a guilty pleasure and a major one at that. An even guiltier pleasure is the fact that we read Twilight fanfiction.
The truth is, we’re always going to love Edward and Bella and the Cullen clan, why not embrace it. Even if they do sparkle in the sunlight.
We sort of wish we sparkled, too.
Is anyone else still triggered by the title of that movie alone? We always will be.
When we left the theater, and finally stopped crying, we had to get all of…that out of our heads. So what did we do? We turned to Avengers fanfiction, where our hearts weren’t broken and where Bucky didn’t turn to ashes as he said ‘Steve…’.
We’re still not over it.
Okay, so we’re really into Riverdale. It’s not a series we immediately thought we’d find so fascinating, but after two episodes, we were hooked! As fans know, the third season is airing on television now, so the characters are still showing new sides of themselves to us for the first time.
They’re doing the same in the fanfiction realm, and it’s awesome to see it both on television and in stories.
We know that the place for a relationship between Draco and Hermione wasn’t within J.K Rowling’s story, but we still saw a glimmer of something between them.
In comes fanfiction and the perfect place for the two to exist.
Some of our favorite stories in the Harry Potter fanfiction world are Draco and Hermione stories. The ones where Hermione brings out the best in Draco and Draco brings out the firey side of Hermione. We just love them.
We like Ron in the Harry Potter books and films, but we always wanted a little more of his character. While many of the Harry Potter fanfiction stories take the characters from Hogwarts and throw them into new situations, we especially love seeing Ron through the eyes of other authors.
His character is one that can be changed ever so slightly but still end up almost totally different.
This one isn’t a hard one to understand. We still aren’t over Dumbledore dying. Some of our favorite Harry Potter fanfiction involves stories where he’s still alive. We also love stories where we see his character in a new light, one similar to the one written by J.K Rowling but just different enough to take us on new adventures with our favorite wizard.
Their banter is top notch, they bring out the best (and worst) in one another, and their relationship is something we can all relate to in one way or another.
Plus, some of our favorite fanfiction stories involve the two.
Have you ever watched one of those series’ where you become so dedicated you can’t give up, but you sort of think it could have done well to end seasons prior? We certainly have.
When fans found out Game Of Thrones was ending, there was an overwhelming amount of disappointment. The series is great, it’s better than great, and it’s hard to imagine the day where the new episodes stop coming.
While a part of us wishes GOT could continue, the bigger part of us is glad they’re not going to drag it through seasons beyond it’s prime. Plus, there’s always the fanfiction realm to follow our favorite characters in.
This one could go without explanation, but we could talk about Stucky all day. If you’ve been living under a rock, Stucky is the pairing between Steve Rogers and Bucky Barnes. They’re handsome, they’re superheroes, they’re incredible on their own, and they’re untouchable together.
Steve and Bucky got each other through some really tough moments, and then they went through some even tougher ones – together and then alone.
Steve never stopped looking for Bucky, and when he found him, he never stopped fighting for him. He never stopped believing that his pal from years ago was still there – somewhere beneath the surface.
Their relationship is a favorite of ours – in whatever capacity you recognize it, and there are fics to satisfy any Stucky fan.
We’re constantly looking for inspiration, and we find a lot of it in stories. So it’s not unusual for us to search the internet daily for new fanfiction.
We’ve read genres we love and are familiar with and even ones we aren’t. We’ve stumbled upon stories we didn’t expect and ended up loving them. We’ve read ships we wouldn’t have imagined before finding fanfiction and we’ve even found soft spots in our hearts for characters we once hated.
The magnificent thing about fanfiction is that it can be a totally different playing field, or it can be just different enough to give a new wind of life to a story you’d never dream of changing.
We know that the fanfiction world means something different to everyone, but we can all agree that it’s something we can’t get enough of.
What are some of the times you needed more fanfiction? Let us know.
